Camellia oleifera: Evergreen shrub or small tree, 3-4m high, sparsely up to 8m. Bark yellowish brown, smooth and indehiscent; branchlets slightly pubescent. Simple leaves alternate; petiole 4-7mm long, hairy; leaf blade thick leathery, ovate-elliptic or ovate, 3.5-9cm long, 1.8-4.2cm wide, apex obtuse, base cuneate, margin serrated, upper Bright green, glabrous or hirsute in midvein, below midvein base hairy or glabrous, lateral veins inconspicuous. Flowers bisexual, 1-3 flowers born on branch tops or leaf axils, 3-5cm in diameter, sessile; sepals usually 5, suborbicular, outer sericeous; petals 5-7, white, separated, obovate to lanceolate, 2.5-4.5cm long, apex often concave, hairy outside; stamens numerous, glabrous, outer filaments only commissural at base; ovary superior, densely covered with white filiform hairs, style three-lobed at apex. Capsule nearly spherical, 3-5cm in diameter, thick pericarp, woody, 2-3-lobed dorsally. The seeds are dorsally rounded and flattened and grow to 2.5cm.
