During the 12th Five Year Plan period, 14 major Camellia oleifera provinces and regions will build 32.5 million mu of Camellia oleifera forest base. By 2020, China's Camellia oleifera forest base is expected to reach 70 million mu, with an annual output of more than 2.5 million tons of tea oil, and people can consume 2 kg of tea oil. Jia Zhibang, director of the State Forestry Administration, said that in the past three years, China has created more than 6.4 million mu of oil tea forest and cultivated and transformed more than 7 million mu of low-yield forest. In 2010, the annual output of tea oil reached 270000 tons and the annual output value was more than 16 billion yuan.
Tea oil is known as "Oriental olive oil". Camellia oleifera is a native tree species originating in China. It is known as the world's four major woody oil tree species together with olive, oil palm and coconut. (source: People's daily)
